Mary DiTommaso

Mary’s nursing career has spanned over 35 years. As a Registered Nurse her experience has been varied. Initially included shock-trauma nursing, immunology/pulmonology then settled into a psychiatric nursing specialty for 33 years. Mary continues to hold a Board certification in Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing for over 25 years. Initially working in the in-patient psychiatric hospital setting for 10 years in Philadelphia and Florida she then moved to Community Mental Health through the State of Delaware for the next 22 years of her career.

During this time Mary worked with the SPMI (Seriously and persistently mentally ill) and substance abuse populations. Using a team approach with her clients and love of education Mary’s clients were very successful in meeting their treatment goals. Much of her role was spent in education including understanding of their diagnosis, medications and self-care skills through mentoring and supportive counseling. Smoking Cessation treatment and education was implemented where indicated.

Additionally, Mary was a member of the Medication and Pharmacy Board that met monthly. This included the Medical Director of the hospital, clinic psychiatrists, lead and contracted pharmacists as well as the nursing director of the mental health clinics. Mary provided annual training to the medical and other clinical staff with Mandt- Non-Violent Communication training and maintained the role of Infection Control Coordinator of her clinic throughout her time with the State.

The last seven years the Mental Health clinic focus changed to Care Management where Mary provided comprehensive assessments of client care needs and placement of clients within the State of Delaware care provider system. Acting as a liaison between the care providers and clients themselves Mary regularly followed their care ensuring all protocols were followed and the clients were happy with their care and their needs were being met. Coordination of care also included interface with other providers such as hospitals, rehabilitation, primary care and other specialty physicians to ensure continuity of care throughout the client’s treatment team. Working closely with the managed care providers as well.

Mary’s energy healing path began in 2006 with the study of several energy healing modalities including Reconnective Healing, Matrix Energetics and Tong Ren Healing. Difficult as it was to bring these healing techniques into her work Mary attended the 2008 International Energy Medicine Conference in Copenhagen, Denmark to identify the “science behind energy medicine” to bring into the mainstream medical world. Concurrently, Mary found and started studying Healing Touch-the energy medicine modality that was endorsed by the American Holistic Nursing Association. Embracing the Healing Touch Curriculum Mary developed and implemented a piolet program bringing Healing Touch into the Community Mental Health Center. This pioneering project enabled clients to experience this alternative healing modality where they would not otherwise have the opportunity to do so. It was a huge success and greatly appreciated by the client’s and staff as well who also received regular healing sessions.  Mary continues to be a Certified Healing Touch Practitioner to this day.

Mary’s avocational interests have been vast and varied. She is a lover of the outdoors and has enjoyed mountain climbing, hiking and camping and developed a love of class III white-water kayaking.

She served on the Board of the local Boating club for several years. She restructured and developed a White-Water Training curriculum encouraging the love of white-water boating at all levels while supporting and encouraging students along the way. She brought the love of kayak rolling through Greenland style “Eskimo rolls” to her students and peers alike. Inspiring others to add these techniques to their skillset for successful rolling on the river.

She studied ballroom dancing extensively for many years and holds metals in both American Style and International Style Ballroom Dancing. Additionally, more recently Mary has taken up motorcycle riding and enjoys the challenge and thrill of this sport. She has shared this interest with her life partner and continues to grow and add excitement to her life.

In the Fall of 2021 Mary retired from the State of Delaware after 22 years of service. She relocated to Pennsylvania and has settled into this area finding a like-minded community and many new friends. She continues to add new avenues to develop and explore and find ways to serve others.

In this spirit she has recently started a consulting firm CM Higher Perspectives Consulting with her life partner Chris Largent. Providing mentoring and guidance where needed.

Additionally, the concept and birth of the Visionary-Creative Projects Initiative has come into focus and is gaining ground and momentum. Founded by Mary and Chris this project researches and highlights exceptional businesses, communities and people that are leading the way to a new way of being and living in today’s society. Creating a world where people can thrive and partner with each other for a more holistic and natural way of life, returning to indigenous values of self-care and care of the communities that surround and support them.

It is an exciting time to witness the changes that are taking shape before our eyes. A wondrous adventure full of promise and hope for a great tomorrow.
